I just recently had the opportunity to work with Josh Wenzel, a practicing social studies teacher and former Learners Edge critic. While course development is in my wheelhouse, teaching social studies is not. Together, we established a new course 5141: Social Studies Instruction for Maximum Impact.
In this course focused on taking full advantage of the efficiency and impact of direction, teachers will check out the ideas of surface area knowing, deep knowing, and transfer of discovering in the content area of social studies. The course text, Visible Learning for Social Studies by Hattie, Stern, Fisher, and Frey, offers a current research study base and right away appropriate methods.
