What’s Onomatopoeia Mean? – Another Question from My Daughters

Every night my daughters (ages 4 and 5) ask us all type of fascinating questions. A few of them are about things that I have not thought about in a long period of time. Some of them arent simple to answer in a method that they can understand. And some of them are a bit of both. That was case one night recently when my five-year-old asked, “whats onomatopoeia indicate?” I did my best to discuss that it is a word like “moo” that is developed from the sound that it makes..

After supper and my rather unsuccessful explanation of onomatopoeia, I turned to YouTube to search for a video that may assist my children better comprehend what onomatopoeia is. Thats where I discovered this cute and brief music video about onomatopoeia. Ill caution you, the tune is kind of catchy (if youre a five-year-old)..

On a related note, Next Vista for Learning hosts a terrific video description of onomatopoeia. The video was produced by a high school student for one of Next Vistas lots of trainee video production contests.
