What’s Onomatopoeia Mean? – Another Question from My Daughters

Every night my daughters (ages 4 and 5) ask us all kinds of fascinating questions. Some of them have to do with things that I have not thought of in a long time. Some of them arent easy to respond to in a manner that they can comprehend. And a few of them are a little bit of both. That was case one night recently when my five-year-old asked, “whats onomatopoeia imply?” I did my best to discuss that it is a word like “moo” that is developed from the sound that it makes..

After supper and my rather not successful explanation of onomatopoeia, I turned to YouTube to attempt to find a video that may help my children much better understand what onomatopoeia is. Thats where I discovered this brief and charming music video about onomatopoeia. Ill caution you, the song is kind of catchy (if youre a five-year-old)..

On an associated note, Next Vista for Learning hosts a fantastic video description of onomatopoeia. The video was produced by a high school student for one of Next Vistas lots of student video production contests.
