Engineering educator Nels Lawrence of Kaukauna High School in Kaukauna, Wisconsin was likewise recognized with an honorable reference in this years award. Vrbas, who worked with his middle school trainees to create an automated watering system for the school garden, was acknowledged for his imaginative usage of Vernier sensors to introduce engineering and robotics principles or practices to his trainees.
