Summer Reading for Teachers in 2021

As one of the resident bookworms at Learners Edge, I take pleasure in composing the Summer Reading blog site to share what our staff is reading for work, fun, or someplace in between. The characters are genuine, human, and well composed, and before you understand it, youll be 20 books into the 25-book series. Just recently, she posted that she had to “cancel all conferences” since she was deep into reading Beach Read. Presently, Im checking out Llama Red Pajama with my 5-year-old – a present from Dolly Partons Imagination Library, one of the best kidss reading programs in the country. We instructors and lovers of instructors know there is nothing more essential than checking out to our kids!

As one of the resident bibliophiles at Learners Edge, I enjoy writing the Summer Reading blog site to share what our staff reads for work, enjoyable, or somewhere in between. The following is a smattering of recommendations from us to make you believe, feel, and find out. I hope you discover your next preferred!
From Jim, CEO.
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote..
A well-written, semi-true, account of the murder of a household in Kansas around 1960..
Alexander Hamilton by Ron Churnow.
I like history and have read a couple of his books. They appear well looked into and contain a decent amount of main source product– letters, quotes from works and speeches, etc. It is an excellent accompaniment to a long journey!

From Dawn, Curriculum and Instruction Team.
The Scarpetta Series by Patricia Cornwall.
These books are a fun flight if you are into mystery, criminal activity, and forensics, tapping into complex and detailed fields of science and criminal activity scene management. The characters are genuine, human, and well written, and prior to you understand it, youll be 20 books into the 25-book series.
From Sarah, Curriculum and Instruction Team:.
Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson.
Its a memoir about Stevensons work to appeal the murder conviction of Walter McMillian, a Black guy who was sentenced to death row for a criminal activity he didnt commit. Im reading it for my book club this month!
From Susanne, Curriculum and Instruction Team:.
Beach Read by Emily Henry.
A different Emily, Emily Henderson, is an Instagram influencer. Just recently, she posted that she needed to “cancel all conferences” because she was deep into checking out Beach Read. Have not begun it yet but she guarantees it will sweep you away. Precisely what I require today.
Live Your Life: My Story of Loving and Losing Nick Cordero by Amanda Kloots.
During the pandemic, I began following Amanda Kloots as she shared about her partner Nick Cordero who was hospitalized with COVID-19.
What Happened to You?: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing by Dr. Bruce Berry and Oprah Winfrey.
Composed “interview style,” its a must-read for all, specifically those who deal with kids. We will utilize this book for our first-ever Learners Edge Blended Book Study, scheduled for January 2022!
From Keely, Director of Professional Programs.
The Push: A Novel by Ashley Audrain (as an audiobook!).
This book, however, is not doing the trick! As the story of a new mom unfolds, I discover myself wanting to remain awake to listen even more.
From Nichole, Marketing Manager.
The Long Walk by Stephen King (composing as Richard Bachmann).
100 young males take part in the “Long Walk,” as they actually walk for their lives. Its a bit dystopian in how spectators see the walk itself, and then it focuses on the primary character & & his experience, relationships, and fear as he continues to walk with the hopes of outlasting the other walkers. There are minutes of humanity and compassion that actually showcase the methods that, even in alarming situations, people can form relationships that matter
.
Finding Laura Buggs by Stanley Gordon West.
From a late Saint Paul author, this story has to do with a teenager in Saint Paul in the 1940s– its a really interesting story and its cool to have Saint Paul as the background. Finding Laura Buggs belongs of a trilogy including Until They Bring the Streetcars Back and Growing an Inch.
From Eddie, Director of Marketing.
The Midnight Library by Matthew Haig.
Envision coping with the regret of your choices and then discovering that the course you chose was really much better than some of the others you would have taken.
Enders Game – Book 1 by Orson Scott Card.
Its a timeless, however the sequel is even much better … Speaker for the Dead – the follow up to Enders Game, is among the most profound and thought-provoking books Ive ever checked out. Orson Scott Cards understanding of the human condition and what it suggests to deal with principles and emotion is unrivaled..
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah.
I love World War II history, it captivates me. Growing up, I seem like it was something that was only gently touched on in high school. This book is so incredible and perfectly written. It is among those stories that you want to hold onto like an unique pal.
The Giver of the Stars by Jojo Moyes.
An unforeseen pleasure! This book will take you on a journey with a bit of murder, friendship, and secret. I could not put this book down and was unfortunate when it was completed.
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.
Have you ever been so alone that you would do practically anything not to be? The depth of feeling in this book is visceral. A story about life and the requirement for connection with a murder mystery linked, I was transfixed. Plus, it is so beautifully composed it seems like slipping into a warm bowl of soup on a cold day..
From Alice, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development.
Llama Llama Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney.
Currently, Im reading Llama Red Pajama with my 5-year-old – a gift from Dolly Partons Imagination Library, one of the very best childrens reading programs in the nation. If your city or state does not have the Imagination Library, contact them and make a distinction in the lives of kids and households in your community. We teachers and fans of instructors understand there is absolutely nothing more vital than checking out to our children!
With choices like these, I hope youve included a few titles to your reading list! Delight in the summer with these leisurely reads.
