Anybody can participate in the LOCs Crowd task to transcribe files in the Walt Whitman collection of journals and notes. Your chosen file will appear on the left side of the screen and a field for writing your transcription appears on the right side of the screen.

Applications for EducationThe LOCs Crowd task is a good chance for high school students and some middle school students to discover about Walt Whitman while contributing to a nationwide job. All of the collections in Crowd do have timelines and some other resources that help to offer context for the files that need transcription.
The Smithsonian has a comparable crowdsourcing project called Smithsonian Digital Volunteers.
