Onwards and upwards: How one district not only survived, but thrived, through the pandemic

In this episode of Innovations in Education, Superintendent Kristie Brooks, Ed.D., explains how they were able to grow their student body, offer enhanced expert and personal advancement, and alter some pre-pandemic practices like participation for the much better.

Every district certainly had struggles throughout this past year. For Chattahoochee County School District, a small, rural neighborhood in Southwest Georgia, it was also a time to automate and speed up.

This conversation has been edited for clarity.

eSN: Glad THAT year is over right? How does it feel to be concentrated on the fall?

KB: Definitely light at the end of the tunnel! And we certainly feel that sense of energy, not only in our school structure, however in our neighborhoods.

eSN: What were a few of the takeaways from last years experience?

KB: We were currently working on a one-to-one device movement, but obviously the pandemic stimulated it on greatly. I mean, thats just a school supply. As we began last year, and then of course, as we ended this year, we watched how our teachers took the brand-new tools and practices, especially Google Classroom, and used their platform as a one-stop store for trainees to be able to have consistent feedback and communication. It actually just opened everybodys eyes to how we can educate and how we can give feedback and how we can generate trainee voice.
