Oklahoma State Department of Education Names i-Ready® a Reading Sufficiency Act K–3 State Approved Screening Instrument

NORTH BILLERICA, Mass., July 14, 2021– The Oklahoma State Department of Education (OKSDE) recently named Curriculum Associates i-Ready as a Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA) K– 3 State Approved Screening Instrument. With this approval, schools throughout the state can begin utilizing the acclaimed Diagnostic in the 2022– 2023 academic year to screen trainees reading abilities and get actionable criterion-referenced and normative data to provide impactful student guideline. Today, the acclaimed i-Ready program serves more than nine million trainees and 25 percent of all K– 8 students in the United States.

As detailed in the RSA, each trainee registered in Grades K– 3 in a public school in Oklahoma will be screened at the beginning, middle, and end of each academic year for grade-level-specific reading skills, as recognized in the subject-matter standards embraced by the OKSDE. Schools must use a State Board– authorized instrument for this screening.

In order to be consisted of on the authorized list, i-Ready needed to fulfill criteria laid out by the OKSDE, including:

Demonstrate convincing proof for reliability and credibility.

Evaluate all five reading ability locations defined in the RSA Oklahoma statute (i.e., Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Reading Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension).

Offer lodgings for subgroups of trainees as required by the RSA Oklahoma statute.

Meet the criteria of a screening instrument as specified by the OKSDE and the proof requirements from the National Center for Intensive Intervention.

In part with i-Ready, Oklahoma educators will receive Tools for Instruction aligned to the Science of Reading. These distinguished, teacher-led reading lessons support both remediation and enrichment throughout grade levels by satisfying the needs of each trainee. Educators furthermore have access to robust reports on private trainee development to additional support specific, systematic, and evidence-based literacy guideline.

Report ratings as needed by the RSA Oklahoma statute.
