Leading Education Organizations Applaud Spending Increase for Social and Emotional Learning in FY2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act

March 17, 2022– The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) and Committee for Kid highly applaud the passage of the FY2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act which supplies increased funding for a Social and Emotional Knowing (SEL) Effort to support SEL and “whole child” approaches to education.

This crucial funding for SEL belongs to a $2 billion increase over the 2021 enacted level for trainees learning and advancement in K-12 education, consisting of trainees with impairments. Connected to SEL, the costs supplies:

$ 111 million within School Safety National Activities for Mental Health Services Professional Demonstration Grants and School-Based Mental Health Services Grants, to help LEAs straight increase the variety of psychological health and kid development experts in schools (boost of $95 million); and.
$ 75 million for Full-Service Community schools to supply extensive services and expand evidence-based models that meet the holistic requirements of kids, neighborhoods, and families (increase of $45 million).
