IRIS Wins ‘Educators Pick Best of STEM 2021’ Award for Earth Science

Winners of the awards were chosen based on evaluations by the educator judges, as well as by a popular vote by more than 2,500 teachers. One educator judge said, “The IRIS Consortium offers thorough resources for Earth Science students from middle school all the way through University.

IRIS went into three of its numerous academic resources for evaluating by STEM teachers: the Station Monitor, an app where students can analyze recent ground movement tape-recorded by regional, regional, or worldwide seismographs; the Layered Earth activity where students compare observed seismic data to predictions they make from a model to figure out that the Earth needs to have a layered internal structure and to approximate the size of Earths core; and the IRIS Earthquake Browser, which lets trainees examine patterns of international, regional, and regional seismicity by exploring countless earthquake epicenters on an interactive map of the world.

All of this years award winners are included on the Educators Pick Best of STEM, Catapult X, and NSTA sites. They will in addition be featured in the January 2022 concerns of NSTAs Science and Children, Science Scope, and The Science Teacher.
