I’m Feeling Lucky – A Google Earth Lesson

To get more information about using Google Earth in your class, take an appearance at my Crash Course in Google Earth & & Maps for Social Studies.

From voyages to games to easy measuring tools, the web variation of
Google Earth has a great deal of neat features that can help students find out about the world. One of those cool functions is the “Im Feeling Lucky” button that is found on the left hand toolbar in Google Earth. Clicking that button will take trainees to a randomly-selected location on the planet..

By itself the “Im Feeling Lucky” button offers a good way for students to discover brand-new places. That stated, trainees discover more through the “Im Feeling Lucky” button if you provide them a little bit more instructions than just “click the button and take a look around.” Thats why I created a little question sheet to trigger trainees to do a little research about the places they find in Google Earth through “Im Feeling Lucky.” My question sheet can be found here as a Google Doc..
This brief video demonstrates how students can explore Google Earth in more detail after clicking “Im Feeling Lucky.”.
