Computer science claims slight victory in high schools

For the first time, a slim bulk of all U.S. high schools– 51 percent– use foundational computer science, up from 35 percent in 2018.

The new statistics originate from the 2021 State of Computer Science Education: Accelerating Action Through Advocacy, launched by Code.org, the Computer Science Teachers Association, and the Expanding Computing Education Pathways Alliance.

Published annually, the report provides a thorough analysis of national development in computer system science education, featuring national and state-level policy and implementation data with a focus on equity and diversity.

The most recent data exposes that variations exist regarding who has access to and who takes part in computer technology education. Trainees who participate in rural schools, metropolitan schools, or schools with higher percentages of economically disadvantaged students are less most likely to have access to computer technology.
