Building critical thinking skills online

As teachers, we typically hear about the value of mentor critical thinking abilities to our trainees. What we find out about less, however, are the most effective strategies for teaching those abilities and how instructors can implement them in the classroom– specifically now that schools are forced to supply virtual direction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At Laurel Springs School, an online K-12 education company, we have mastered the art of mentor in an online classroom. With a competency-based model and asynchronous guideline, students at Laurel Springs must be able to think critically about their assignments and lessons, and the presentation of concept and skill proficiency is vital to their success at our school.

In an online scholastic environment, the focus on important believing abilities is magnified. Our learning design promotes independence and self-advocacy with applications in all locations of a students life. The earlier trainees develop these abilities, the more fully equipped they are to grow as students, expanding their knowledge base and making connections both across core content locations and on the planet around them.
