A classroom teacher’s view on homework

I do see homework as having a function in the educational procedure and I do not agree with Alfie Kohn (see short article), who appears to believe homework is worthless, or worse, has an unfavorable impact. While Kohn asserts there is nearly no research study that shows homework to be advantageous, I did not see a convincing amount of tough information to support doing away with all homework.

Our textbook points out it can take 24 repeatings of a skill for a trainee to reach 80% competency. Kohn points out how trainees might become much better at keeping in mind, however not believing. I see this as two various things; we require students to remember specific truths and then move on to using those abilities as thinkers and issue solvers.
As a parent, it can be challenging to squeeze in homework some nights! My own kids have actually brought home assignments I believed unsuitable or too lengthy for one night. We do the very best we can, and if we have issues or problems, I connect to the teacher. Understanding some trainees have little or no support in the house need to be recognized by educators. Again, great teachers make it an indicate know what some house situations might resemble and to modify appropriately. When possible, associates can work together, as described in two extra course short articles, by establishing a finding out lab or including “Drop-In” times throughout the school day
