When believing about homework, teachers find it advantageous to communicate their policy with the households of their trainees. After recently finishing a Learners Edge course, Jennifer Lindsey, a 4th grade instructor from Pennsylvania, reflected on her research approach which includes the purposeful roles teachers and families play.

I do see research as having a function in the educational procedure and I do not agree with Alfie Kohn (see article), who appears to believe research is useless, or worse, has an unfavorable impact. While Kohn asserts there is almost no research that shows research to be helpful, I did not see a convincing quantity of tough data to support doing away with all homework.

Our book mentions it can take 24 repeatings of an ability for a student to reach 80% competency. I believe practicing abilities is beneficial. Kohns contrast with tennis does not make good sense to me. There are abilities in tennis you must practice to improve. There are fundamental mathematics skills children should practice to construct a solid structure before proceeding to higher-level mathematics skills. Kohn points out how students may progress at keeping in mind, but not thinking.
