A classroom teacher’s view on homework

I do see homework as having a role in the academic process and I do not agree with Alfie Kohn (see post), who appears to believe homework is useless, or worse, has an unfavorable effect. While Kohn asserts there is nearly no research study that proves homework to be beneficial, I did not see a convincing amount of difficult information to support doing away with all research.
Yes, the quantity of homework must be based on the trainees age and grade level. As the majority of Kindergarten-3rd grade instructors are self-contained, it must be reasonably simple to provide math research one night, checking out or spelling one night, and so on to prevent overloading 5 to 8-year-olds. LE: What is your position on the concern of homework?
I answer as an educator and as the parent of school age kids when I answer this question. I do see homework as having a role in the instructional procedure and I do not concur with Alfie Kohn (see short article), who appears to believe research is worthless, or worse, has an unfavorable effect. While Kohn asserts there is practically no research that proves homework to be helpful, I did not see a persuading amount of hard data to support doing away with all research.

Our book points out it can take 24 repeatings of a skill for a student to reach 80% proficiency. Kohn points out how trainees may become better at keeping in mind, however not believing. I see this as 2 different things; we need trainees to remember particular truths and then move on to using those abilities as thinkers and issue solvers.
As a parent, it can be difficult to squeeze in homework some nights! My own kids have brought house tasks I thought inappropriate or too prolonged for one night. We do the very best we can, and if we have concerns or problems, I connect to the teacher. Understanding some trainees have little or no assistance in the house should be recognized by educators. Again, good teachers make it a point to know what some home scenarios may be like and to modify accordingly. When possible, associates can collaborate, as described in 2 extra course articles, by establishing a discovering laboratory or incorporating “Drop-In” times throughout the school day
