7 Black History Month resources for February and beyond

Throughout Black History Month, teachers have the opportunity to look into the difficult– and often unpleasant– experiences of Black people in the U.S. and worldwide.

Have a look at these learning resources (in 2015s resources are available here) to begin in February and to plan out how to consist of Black history in your mentor throughout the academic year.

Maybe among the most essential “dos” is this: Dont limit your teaching of Black history to the month of February.

1. The NEAs site uses a great selection of resources to help trainees understand the Black experience in U.S. history. Lessons strategies cover a number of subjects and can be adjusted to fit multiple grade levels. A lesson on Musical Harlem for grades 3-5 lesson helps trainees discover the Harlem Renaissance as they develop original jazz artwork. In another lesson, The Illusion of Race, trainees in grades 6-8 examine both hereditary and social consequences of the often-artificial and progressing categories of race and ethnic background.
