4 principles of innovative school policing
In Round Rock ISD in Texas, we are paving the way for what district authorities hope is the blueprint for transformative school policing.
In pursuing this ingenious approach to school policing, the Round Rock ISD Police Department works carefully with Dewayne Street, the districts chief equity officer, and Dr. Amy Grosso, Ph.D., who is the districts director of behavioral health services.
The Round Rock Policing Model is constructed upon what we call The Four Pillars of School Policing:
We created our department to utilize social workers to much better serve trainees with social, psychological, behavioral, and psychological health needs that may lead to them having a crisis. Our department is developed for social employees to handle these circumstances and to offer wrap-around services to the households, including ongoing support to the trainees.
The Behavioral Health Pillar refers to the Behavioral Health Services Department and the work of Dr. Amy Grosso. It is housed inside the police department and is staffed with 10 social employees. Numerous big community cops companies have social employees on personnel who assist officers with critical occurrences, from what we could discover, we are the only school police department in the country that has social workers inside the department.
